The fabulous new face of Geelong is its beautiful waterfront precinct, with excellent restaurants and bars, landscaped gardens, broad walking paths, regular events and the backdrop of sparkling Corio Bay.
There are lots of attractions, including a hand-carved steam-driven carousel that’s more than 110 years old and is worth a million dollars. And yes, you can still take a ride on it.
Then follow the trail of more than 100 whimsical bollards that relate Geelong’s history as they guide you along the foreshore to the Botanic Gardens. These historic gardens have undergone a $2 million redevelopment, and are part of the huge Eastern Park which features mature trees, picnic and barbecue rotundas, a 9-hole golf course and lots of open space.
The Geelong Performing Arts Centre is the city’s cultural hub, and you’ll also find well-stocked galleries and museums and a great variety of shopping precincts in the city centre.
