TRAINEE POSITIONS

Searoad Ferries, operates 2 all weather car and passenger ferries on Melbourne’s spectacular Port Phillip Bay. Sailing between Sorrento and Queenscliff 365 days a year and carrying more than 800,000 people annually.

Searoad Ferries is offering a rare opportunity for 6 Full-Time Trainees to join their staff as Maritime Tourism Trainees. The traineeships are being offered across three pathways, they are:

  1. a) Deck – Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master up to 24 metres Near Costal)
  2. b) Engine– Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal)
  3. c) Tourism / Hospitality – Certificate III

Trainees will learn key skills through ‘on the job’ and formal training.

 

Duties will include but are not limited to:

DECK TRAINEE

  • Assist in the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the vessel
  • Assist in the navigation and shipboard duties onboard the vessel
  • Undertake maintenance and cleaning activities
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of the vessel

ENGINE TRAINEE

  • Assist in the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the vessel
  • Assist in the engineering tasks and shipboard duties onboard the vessel
  • Undertake maintenance and cleaning activities
  • Assist the engineer with manual tasks
  • Learn about onboard marine/mechanical systems

TOURISM/HOSPITALITY

  • Assist in the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the business
  • Assist in the onboard and shore-based Cafe’s
  • Develop tourism and hospitality skills through on the job experience
  • Assist with all Food & Beverage tasks including food preparation
  • Serve beverages including alcohol & coffee
  • Sell tourism products
  • Learn and develop business skills such as documentation and online information systems

Searoad Ferries, Australia’s favourite car and passenger ferry, crosses Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay, between Sorrento and Queenscliff.  The ferry crossing connects the Great Ocean Road to the Mornington Peninsula and further on to Phillip Island.  The 40 minute crossing is a great way to save time and road miles and offers a bay experience.  To continue our constant growth we are seeking a professional, energetic and enthusiastic Ticketing & Customer Service Officer to join our Customer Service Team.

Our Job

This exciting role involves assisting customers as you are the first port of call when they choose to travel on the ferry.  You must have the ability to interact with and service the customer.  The role of ticketing staff is diverse and varied and includes completing a multitude of tasks during the day.  Most important of these is the ability to work with our current ticketing and sales system.

Reporting to the Customer Service Team Leader you will also be responsible for a variety of duties including but not limited to –

  • Providing exceptional customer service
  • Ensure the ticketing process is smooth, efficient, happy and informative
  • Cash Handling
  • Handling difficult customers from start to end where possible
  • Processing of customer bookings & payments
  • Providing product information to customers
  • Regular contact with the sales team
  • Data Entry
  • General Administration (mail outs etc)

We are a 7 day business operating 365 days of the year. Our operating hours are 6.30am – 6.15pm (7.15pm during Peak season).

You are

The ideal applicant will be warm, friendly and possess an outgoing manner.  A self-motivated person who will display a high level of customer care and be able to be part of a team dedicated to these standards.   You have a genuine interest in people and can engage with them and are able to work mid-week, weekends and/or public holidays.

To be successful in this role you must have a strong ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and have a “can do” attitude.  Your excellent communication and data entry skills along with your outgoing personality will help you secure this fantastic opportunity.  Previous experience in tourism will be considered favourably.
