Searoad Ferries has an opportunity of a lifetime for six youngsters with a passion for the sea, tourism and hospitality. We are advertising to fill six full-time Certificate III trainee positions available across three pathways –tourism/hospitality, deck and engine.
Trainees who have just completed their time have nothing but praise for the two-year program and the opportunity to work with Searoad Ferries. “You are not going to get yourself a better opportunity than this to start in the marine industry,” says graduating trainee Liam. “This has allowed me to see things I probably won’t see ever again, it’s just been amazing,” says fellow trainee Cooper. And hospitality trainee Miranda Moore says the staff have been awesome. “This has given me a fantastic opportunity to work across all hospitality aspects of the business, from the onboard café and events to RORO Café on the Beach.”
Searoad Ferries CEO Matt McDonald said it is a unique opportunity for young people to gain valuable sea-time and experience while obtaining a nationally recognised commercial maritime qualification, or indeed a unique hospitality experience both on the water and at our café. “This program fast tracks the career of young people entering the maritime industry and it is the only traineeship program of its kind in Victoria,” he says.
An operator of two all weather car and passenger ferries on Port Phillip Bay, Searoad Ferries is widely recognized as a leader in the maritime industry, sailing between Sorrento and Queenscliff 365 days a year and carrying more than 800,000 people annually.
“We need to give back to the next generation of young people who are passionate and committed to a career on the water along with those in tourism and hospitality. This program is unique in that it provides hands on experience and employment, in an environment where there are limited opportunities for young people to get a start onboard large commercial vessels, Mr McDonald says.”
