A Daycation filled with tastings

Wine tasting is a fun days outing -traipsing from cellar door to cellar door, tasting the best of a region, sometimes sampling from the barrel, touring behind the scenes or chatting at the wine pour directly with the winemaker.  It’s an experience that never quiet translated over a ‘zoom’ tasting.

Staying close to home and taking a day trip does not have to mean only one region as Victorians can sample two amazing wine regions in just one day – the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas.  With superb, locally grown and produced wines, a ton of cellar doors and a quick connection across the bay by ferry, it’s a daycation worth doing.

Wineries are nearby and two or three cellar doors can be reasonably achieved on each peninsula.

1. Montalto Vineyard

Perched on a hill, overlooking the vineyard and sculpture park is Monington Peninuslas’ Montalto Vineyard, where the warm and welcoming cellar door team will hand-pick a selection of wine varietals, and guide you through the Montalto range.

2. Tucks

Tucks for something a little different, a blind wine tasting. Yes, blind! Scribble your notes, mark the wine out of ten and all is revealed at the end. It makes the whole experience a bit more fun, kicks bias to the kerb and you have a chance to sip’n’spit (if that’s your thing) with an open mind.

3. Foxey's Hang Out

Foxeys Hang Out has a casual, laid back feel with a great vibe and sensational views. Wine tasting is mixed in with a cool café, and if the weather is nice the outside deck captures the sun and is a great spot to sit and just be.

4. Sail to The Bay

Jump on board the Ferry and take a shortcut across the bay to your next wine region! Enjoy a local wine or beer while taking in colourful vistas of Port Phillip Bay.

5. Oakdene Vineyards

Oakdene‘s boutique, family owned vineyard is located in Wallington (near Ocean Grove) on the Bellarine Peninsula, just a short drive from the Searoad Ferry terminal, and is situated in a picturesque vineyard and garden setting that is simply made for exploring. Oakdene’s range of award-winning cool climate wines, all perfectly suited to the maritime climate of the Bellarine.

6. Scotchmans Hill

Scotchmans Hill is located in the heart of the Bellarine Peninsula. A producer of premium cool maritime climate wines, Scotchmans Hill has been a leading local winery for over thirty years and is rated among James Halliday’s Top 100 Wineries.

7. Jack Rabbit Vineyard

Jack Rabbit is a must visit destination on the Bellarine. Experience the delectable food, take a guided tasting of the diverse stable of sophisticated cool climate wines. Soak up the spectacular and ever-changing views - the ultimate Bellarine experience awaits.
